Review of S-League 2011 Round 1

Hey all, sorry for not updating. I was busy with my exams preparation. I have some time off now, so needed to update to keep it alive.

Round 1 of S-League has concluded. I am pretty impressed with what I have seen so far. Quite a number of goals and stunning displays. I truly believe that with this kind of performances, the league could only get better as it goes. However, despite the fact that the league and their organizers are trying their best to improve their quality, the turnout have not been good. But its okay, I believe the crowd will improve soon!

This bunch of players are the pick for Round 1.

Izwan Mahbud (Courts Young Lions, Goalkeeper) - CYL's defense hasn't been good so far, but with 21 year-old Izwan keeping goal, its the reason why CYL are not conceding much every game. Bright future ahead.

Ismadi Mukhtar (Tampines Rovers, Right Back) - Right back is not where he plays at Tampines but he fits the position the best. A main stay in the Tampines team. Consistent and I reckon a national team call up soon.

Bah Mamadou (SAFFC, Center Back) - Solid. SAF's most consistent performer so far. Forged an understanding with Daniel Bennett and justifies coach Richard's decision to start him ahead of Hammond. I see him pairing up with Bennett in the national team.

Benoit Crossaint (Tampines Rovers, Center Back) - The most consistent defender in the league. He, together with Park Yo Seb and Seiji Keneko forms an almost indestructible wall in front of Hassan Sunny. He gets goals too.

Paul Cunningham (Balestier Khalsa, Left Back) - I'm pretty sure in a team like this left back suits him best. He can attack, he can defend. Perhaps moving to a bigger club next season. Keeping my fingers crossed.

K Vikraman (Balestier Khalsa, Right Midfield) - The most underrated player in the S-League. He delivers every game and seldom disappoints. National team call up soon.

Ivan Jerkovic (SAFFC, Center Midfield) - He is creative, he pull the strings in midfield. He can score, he can pass. All-rounded midfielder and the engine in SAFFC's midfield.

Maxime Belouet (Etoile FC, Center Midfield) - Certainly impressed with him in a new Etoile side. He's got a sweet left foot and can spray diagonal balls easily. Has he played in Ligue 1?

Asraf Rashid (Home United, Left Midfield) - Stand-out performer among many impressive players in the Home United team. Never disappoints and has a lot to offer. The workaholic in the team.

Ahmad Latiff (Tampines Rovers, Attacking Midfield) - It puzzles me why SAF did not renew his contract. Arguably the S-League best player so far. He is playing in a more defensive role in Tampines but this is where he belong. He has the creativity, he can shoot, he can pass. His goal against T&T in the AFC Cup is a hint of his class. Please get him into the national team, Raddy.

Aleks Duric (Tampines Rovers, Forward) - Apart from his looks, you can never tell he is 41. 16 goals in 16 games this season is an achievement. He has the predatory instinct and has the experience. Top scorer award this season for me.

Salim Moin (Balestier Khalsa, Coach) - Singapore's master tactician. He masterminded many of Balestier's impressive results this season which included draws against Home & Etoile. He also masterminded the comeback draw against Hougang. Coach of Round 1. Impressive.
